Boutinot Portfolio Tasting 2018
Is there anything much better then spending your day surrounded by wine? Well, maybe being able to sample every single one of them...
This week we attended the annual Boutinot Portfolio Tasting - a yearly event hosted by wine experts and distributors Boutinot, a fantastic opportunity to sample their large selection from across the globe.
We were invited up on Tuesday to the portfolio wine tasting at Lancashire Cricket Ground. The room was filled with excitable wine enthusiasts ready to find the next
best thing for their store, bar or restaurant! We wasted no time and headed over to the first dry whites and made our way through the fizz, sweet wines and rose. Then no time to waste, we set about sampling the reds - looking to find those winter warmers we are all love.
An interesting discovery was the new addition of Alpha Box & Dice, a boutique McLaren Vale winery who are embarking on an Alphabet of Wine, where a different wine style is created to reflect each letter of the alphabet. Look out for the 'Uncle' wine - a homage to that brilliantly uncool, slightly creepy uncle everyone has, a Sauvignon Blanc with crisp, fresh notes. Alpha Box & Dice have nailed the descriptions of each bottle, and are definitely part of a new movement in wine making and branding, here's their notes on the 'Uncle':
LOOKS LIKE… Pale, pale grass.
FEELS LIKE… Being under a waterfall.
SOUNDS LIKE… Radiohead – Creep
SMELLS LIKE… Grapefruit pith and gooseberries, fresh hops and passionfruit.
TASTES LIKE… Lean, tight and super fresh. Crunchy apple acidity, sour-sobs and gooseberries.
DRINK WITH… Sunshine, oysters, crabs and shellfish.
CELLAR FOR… Up to five years.
We found some great new wines that will be making an appearance on our wine list shortly. From Italian and Lebanon wines to great value chardonnays and syrah’s, we think we have successfully covered some good ground to accommodate everyone’s taste buds!
