Domaine Jean-Pierre Bailly lies at the heart of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation and is run by winemaker Patrice Bailly. Having taken over from his father in 2000, Patrice is the sixth generation to run the family domaine, which comprises 17 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc planted among the best vineyards of Pouilly-Fumé. These sites are found within the communes of Tracey-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain and Pouilly-sur-Loire. The estate's vines, aged between 10 and 40 years old, are planted at an average density of 6,600 vines per hectare, on the calcareous Kimmeridgian soils typical of the appellation.
The Pouilly-Fumé is fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks, before being lees aged for four months, adding texture and character to the finished wine. The result is a beautifully perfumed expression, with aromas of peach, citrus fruit and white flowers, elegant minerality on the palate and a lifted finish.
