The Vaira family is based in the small village of Vergne, which sits above the town of Barolo on the westernmost edge of the denomination. They have 20 hectares of Barolo vineyard planted along this western part of the zone, the prime site being Bricco delle Viole, which sits at over 400 metres above sea level. Vajra’s Moscato grapes hail from the Comune of Mango vineyard 'Riforno’, in the Moscato d'Asti zone. This south-facing, 2.5-hectare vineyard was planted at the top of a very steep slope, at 420-470 metres above sea level. The vines are trained in a mixed guyot system and were planted between 1986 and 2007. The planting density is 3,600 vines per hectare.
Vajra’s Moscato d’Asti is just 5.5. % alcohol with a delicate, foamy mousse. The palate is fresh and rich, with vibrant notes of crushed flowers, apricot and candied peach aromas. The palate is juicy and fresh, with a persistent finish that leaves you reaching for a second glass.
